The TERRAM root barrier – protecting trees and buildings
Since tree roots often grow close to the surface, they are frequently the cause of a wide variety of damage: asphalt can crack, masonry can be lifted, and pipes can be damaged or even blocked. This damage often means that trees have to be felled. The Rootguard plus root barrier consists of a high-strength TERRAM nonwoven fabric with a special root-resistant coating. The water-impermeable root barrier ensures that tree roots do not continue to grow on the coated side of the root barrier, but are instead diverted into lower layers of soil where they cannot cause any damage. Expensive measures to repair damage or fell trees can be avoided by using the root barrier. TERRAM Rootguard plus is therefore a simple and cost-effective solution for numerous applications in gardening, landscaping, and construction, e.g.:
- Protection of bike paths from trees
- Prevention of root damage in forests and forest paths
- Root protection for cable routes and pipeline construction
- Protection against root damage to pipes and drainage systems
- Root barrier in public green spaces and parks
- Root blockers for pond liner sealing
- Protective barrier for asphalt surfaces, sidewalks, and paving
Use as a rhizome barrier – so that all plants remain in their intended place
Many plants form root runners just below the surface of the soil, causing them to spread quickly and uncontrollably. To keep plants such as various ornamental grasses, raspberries, mint, or bamboo under control, their growth should be limited with the help of a rhizome barrier. TERRAM Rootguard plus is ideal as a rhizome barrier due to its root-resistant special coating. The root runners are prevented from growing further by the rhizome barrier and the plant remains in its intended location. Ideally, bamboo, ornamental grasses, etc. should be enclosed with a rhizome barrier when planting. The rhizome barrier is installed vertically to the depth at which the roots usually grow. The ends of the rhizome barrier are firmly glued together with plastic adhesive, ensuring sufficient overlap. If the Rootguard plus is left to protrude a few centimeters above the soil surface, the rhizome barrier also serves as a watering ring.

Non-woven fabrics
As a separating and filter fleece in road construction, as weed and root protection, for laying a new lawn or as a tablecloth at outdoor events – the possible uses of nonwovens are as varied as the fleeces themselves. We offer a wide range of nonwovens for a variety of applications. In addition to TERRAM and premiumgarden brand geotextiles, our range also includes biodegradable nonwovens with integrated lawn or flower seeds and a large selection of tablecloths for outdoor use.
Geotextiles: TERRAM and premiumgarden brand geotextiles have proven themselves in professional gardening and landscaping for many years and are also becoming increasingly popular with hobby gardeners. Geotextiles can be used in a variety of ways as separating fleece, drainage fleece or even for weed control. All our geotextiles are UV-resistant, rot-proof and characterised by their high durability.
Weed protection: Our weed control fabrics are an environmentally friendly and sustainable way of controlling weeds and eliminate the need for aggressive chemicals in the garden. The weed control fabric is simply laid between the flower bed and the mulch layer, so that root weeds no longer have any chance of reaching the light. The weed barrier significantly reduces the amount of maintenance required for flower beds and borders.
Root protection: Our root protection fabrics offer reliable protection against damage caused by tree roots to buildings, cycle paths and footpaths. The waterproof root barrier also helps to keep rhizomes and aggressive root runners in check and prevent the uncontrolled spread of bamboo and similar plants.
Water storage fabric: Water storage fabrics absorb many times their weight in water, thus preventing the soil from drying out. The biodegradable irrigation fabric strips are simply mixed into the soil, where they ensure that stored water reaches the roots directly. For the irrigation of trees in particular, we offer our irrigation net, which is placed around the root ball before planting.
Tablecloths: Our fleece tablecloths are particularly tear-resistant and durable, making them ideal for garden parties and other outdoor events. The fleece tablecloths are washable and reusable, making them a cost-effective alternative to paper tablecloths.
