Geocells

TERRAM Geocells – versatile system for soil stabilisation

TERRAM geocells are a modern three-dimensional cellular composite system that offers a high-performance alternative to conventional grass grids for numerous construction and landscaping applications. The characteristic honeycomb structure stabilises the soil and reliably prevents the filling material from slipping. This creates permanently stable surfaces that can be used in a wide variety of projects – from slope stabilisation and base layers to root bridges. The advantage over other geocells lies in the material: TERRAM geocells are made of geotextile mesh, which ensures that the surface remains drainable even on slopes and helps to increase load-bearing capacity by interlocking the fill material.

Our TERRAM geocells are suitable for many different applications:

Stabilisation and erosion protection on embankments

TERRAM geocells are particularly useful where embankments and slopes need to be protected against erosion, slippage or shearing. The cells are fixed to the surface, filled with suitable material and, together with the filler, provide effective erosion protection. This protects the slope surface against erosion by rain, wind or water flow and at the same time supports vegetation growth. The open structure allows rainwater to seep away unhindered, which increases the long-term stability of the embankment.

Root bridge for natural paths and infrastructure

TERRAM geocells are used as root bridges to protect existing trees and urban greenery when constructing paths, cycle paths, footpaths or traffic areas. Instead of breaking up the ground and damaging tree roots, the geocell system is installed over the root area and filled with bulk material. The distributing effect of the cell structure means that loads are carried over a large area, protecting the root space from compaction and mechanical damage. In this way, natural paths can be completed without restricting the vitality of the trees. Further technical information can be found in our free e-paper.

Reinforcement of base courses under high loads

TERRAM geocells are ideal for reinforcing base layers when low-bearing soils need to be stabilised or dynamic loads need to be distributed. In construction practice, this means that layers with a low build-up height achieve high load-bearing capacity and dimensional stability without requiring large quantities of bulk material or earthworks. This property makes geocells particularly interesting for construction site access roads, work platforms, roads and traffic routes or emergency routes with high load-bearing and drainage requirements. Compared to traditional construction methods, the structure can thus be greatly reduced in size, which saves valuable resources in practice.

Flexible filling materials and economic advantages

The geocell system can be combined with various fillers – from gravel and soil to sand and concrete, depending on the requirements of the project. Thanks to its great adaptability, existing material can be used or filled locally, which reduces transport and material costs. At the same time, the reduced order volume ensures shorter construction times and minimised impact on nature.

Versatile applications and sustainability

TERRAM geocells are available in various heights and sizes and offer an efficient solution for terrain shapes, embankments and load-bearing surfaces. Their open, water-permeable structure promotes vegetation and enables the natural design of traffic routes, parks, shore areas, embankments and more. Thanks to their low material requirements, simple installation and long-term stability, geocells also contribute to sustainable and cost-efficient construction projects.
