TERRAM Rootguard – Secure root protection for paths, pipes, and buildings
TERRAM Rootguard root barrier fabric is an extremely robust, thermally bonded fiber fabric with very low material elongation. Thanks to these properties, the geotextile provides reliable root protection for all types of structures. TERRAM Rootguard root barrier fabric is ideal for protecting entire areas, pipes, channels, or paths from damage caused by tree roots.
Pipe trenches can be completely covered with the water-permeable geotextile. The root barrier thus separates the different soil materials, filters soil water, and prevents tree roots from growing into the pipe trench through the Rootguard root barrier. Although the thin root tips can pass through the fine openings in the fiber structure of the geotextile, the solid root barrier does not expand, reliably preventing these root tips from growing further.
Thanks to its mechanical properties, the root barrier is suitable for the following applications, for example:
- Prevention of root damage on forest and woodland paths or cycle paths through wooded areas
- Root protection for cable routes, pipelines, sewers, and drainage systems
- Root protection in public green spaces and parks
- Root barrier for protecting sidewalks and paved areas
Instructions for installing the root protection fabric
TERRAM Rootguard is an open-pored fabric that does not form a barrier to soil water. This means that gravel trenches lined with Rootguard root protection fabric can retain water while being safely protected from tree roots. To install the root protection fabric, proceed as follows:
- Dig a narrow trench between the tree and the structure to be protected. The location and depth of the trench depends on the tree species.
- The Rootguard root barrier is then laid along the trench wall, taking care to ensure that no sharp objects can damage the geotextile. If the roll length is not sufficient, overlaps of at least 50 cm should be provided at the connection points.
- The trench is then filled and compacted in layers.
The root barrier is delivered packaged in PE film to protect it from damage by UV radiation. It is recommended that the root protection barrier remain packaged until installation.

The waterproof root barrier also helps to keep rhizomes and aggressive root runners in check and prevent the uncontrolled spread of bamboo and similar plants.
Water storage fabric: Water storage fabrics absorb many times their weight in water, thus preventing the soil from drying out. The biodegradable irrigation fabric strips are simply mixed into the soil, where they ensure that stored water reaches the roots directly. For the irrigation of trees in particular, we offer our irrigation net, which is placed around the root ball before planting.
Seed fleece: Our TURFquick seed fleece is a biodegradable cellulose fleece with integrated seeds. This innovative seed fleece prevents fresh seeds from being eaten by birds or washed away by rain. As the seed fleece already contains all the nutrients necessary for seed development, sowing with TURFquick is child's play and no further fertilisation is required.
Tablecloths: Our fleece tablecloths are particularly tear-resistant and durable, making them ideal for garden parties and other outdoor events. The fleece tablecloths are washable and reusable, making them a cost-effective alternative to paper tablecloths.
